Treatment Options

  • Professional Cleaning

    Professional cleaning is just as important to your dental health as daily brushing and flossing. By using specialized tools and training, we at Dr. Mehta's Dental Care & Cure will:
    * Remove plaque build-up from the surfaces of teeth. (Bacteria in the mouth form plaque, which collects on teeth and causes decay, gum disease, and gingivitis.)
    * Remove tartar from teeth surfaces. (Tartar, or calculus, is plaque that has become hardened on the teeth that its removal requires special procedures. Tartar below the gum line is also an indication of gum disease.)
    * Remove surface stains from teeth through polishing. Some patients will require a deep cleaning due to gum disease and past periodontal treatments. Our dentists will review your past dental history and identify any issues that might require treatment.

  • Oral Examinations

    Regular dental check-ups help catch problems when they are small and easier to treat. Left unattended, small treatable problems become worse and may require more extensive, expensive procedures to repair. Dental examinations generally include the following:

    * Gum Disease screening
    * Visual tooth decay evaluation
    * X-ray examination (if required) to detect- Tooth decay or teeth requiring root canal treatment, impacted teeth etc.
    * Crooked teeth
    * Gum Disease (Periodontal Disease) - Gum disease is usually painless; you may not know that you have it.

    • Here are some warning signs that can signal a problem:

      * Gums that bleed easily
      * Red, swollen, tender gums
      * Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
      * Persistent Bad breath or Bad taste
      * Permanent teeth that are loose or separating
      * Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite

      There are many factors that increase the risk of developing gum disease including smoking, pregnancy, and diabetes. It is important to visit Dr. Mehta's Dental Care & Cure Clinic if you suspect you have gum disease; because the sooner you treat it the better.

    • Advanced Gum Disease (Periodontitis)

      Advanced gum disease is called 'Periodontitis'. Chronic periodontitis can lead to the loss of tissue and bone that support the teeth and it may become more severe over time. If it does, your teeth will feel loose and fall eventually.

      Research between systemic diseases and periodontal diseases is ongoing. While a link is not conclusive, some studies indicate that severe gum disease may be associated with several other health conditions such as Diabetes or Stroke.

  • Sealants

    Sealants are generally used to help prevent tooth decay on the biting surfaces of back teeth (molars). The natural grooves of teeth can trap food that can resist casual brushing and rinsing. If left in place, the trapped food allows bacteria to multiply, eventually causing tooth decay and requiring costly attention.
    Sealants are applied directly onto the tooth surface, where they seal the natural grooves to help prevent tooth decay. Sealants offer a cost-effective, preventative step to reduce the chances of tooth decay on the chewing surfaces of molars.

  • Cosmetic Dentistry

    Cosmetic dentistry will give you healthy, radiant teeth. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve confidence and make you want to share your smile.
    With state-of-the-art materials, tried and tested dental techniques; cosmetic dentistry improves appearance and enhances self-esteem. Composite fillings have replaced traditional silver coloured amalgams.
    Composite fillings are tooth-coloured which blend in with the remaining natural part of the tooth. Composite fillings (metal-free fillings) provide good durability and resistance to fracture in small-to-mid size restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Composite filling material is also commonly used to repair front teeth that have chipped or worn off. Where possible, aesthetic bonding of composite material to front teeth is generally much less expensive than veneers or crowns.

  • Teeth Whitening

    Teeth whitening, as the name implies, is a process for making your smile brighter and more attractive using 'in-office' bleaching techniques.

  • Porcelain Veneers

    Dental veneers are custom crafted porcelain laminates fitted over the front of an existing tooth. They bond directly to the front of the tooth, dramatically enhancing its shape, colour, and appearance.

    Porcelain veneers are:
    I. Virtually undetectable
    II. Very durable
    III. An effective way to improve smile appearance

  • Root Canals

    A "root canal" or Endodontic therapy is a procedure available to save a tooth that is infected and would otherwise require extraction. There are many reasons that teeth can become infected including cavities, previous large fillings, crowns, cracks, fractures, trauma, and extreme wear. Root canal therapy is needed when the nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection. In order to save the tooth, the pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth), nerves, bacteria, and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with special, medicated, dental materials, which restore the tooth to its full function.

    Many patients believe that removing a tooth that has problems is the solution, but what they do not realize is that extracting (pulling) a tooth could ultimately be more costly and cause significant problems for adjacent teeth as well as loss of bone in the area where the tooth was removed.

    While root canal therapy has a high degree of success, it is not 100% guaranteed. It is very important to have a permanent restoration (usually a crown) placed within 30 days of the root canal. If a permanent restoration is not placed, the tooth can further decay to the point where the root canal must be re-done or, worse, the tooth must be removed.

  • Dental Crowns/ Bridges

    A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens the tooth structure giving the tooth a longer life than it would have if restored by fillings or other types of restorations.

    At Dr. Mehta's Dental Care & Cure clinic, we do two types of crowns, All Porcelain (Tooth coloured) and Porcelain Fused To Metal.

    * All Porcelain: A very aesthetically pleasing usually recommended for patients who are more smile conscious.

    * Porcelain Fused To Metal: A metal based crown with porcelain baked to the outside to make it more Cosmetic. This type of crown is great for someone who wants a tooth coloured crown but still wants durability. There is still a risk of fracturing these types of crowns but usually it is just the outside porcelain that chips off.

    What does getting a crown involve? A crown procedure usually requires two appointments.
    Your first appointment will include taking impressions that will be used to create your custom-made crown.

    While the tooth is numb, we will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface to properly fit the crown.
    At your second appointment, the tooth will be cleaned, the tooth will be cleaned and carefully cemented.

    You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to check your crown. As always, proper oral hygiene will help extend the life of your new crown.

    A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace several missing teeth.

    There are several types of bridges. We will discuss the best options for your particular case. Dental bridges are highly durable and will last many years with proper homecare; however, they may need to be replaced or re-cemented due to normal wear.

    Reasons For a Fixed Bridge:
    * Fill space of missing teeth
    * Maintain facial shape
    * Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
    * Restore chewing and speaking ability
    * Restore your smile
    * Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental appliance

  • Dental Implants

    With years of experience in placing and restoring implants, Dr. Mehta's Dental Care & Cure Clinic provides start-to-finish dental implant services; from the extraction of your tooth and placement of the dental implant, to the crown restoration for your implant. We also provide bone grafting services for our dental implant patients. Contact us today to learn more about the dental implant services we offer!
    What Are Dental Implants? A dental implant is a metal device designed to replace missing teeth. The device is usually made out of titanium and is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing. Unlike a dental bridge, an implant is permanent.
    Dental implants offer a smile that looks and feels very natural. Surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for individual replacement teeth, bridges or a denture. Implants offer stability because they fuse to your bone, by a process called Osseointegration. Dr. Mehta has conducted a detailed study and written a dissertation on this topic, which enables us to give you nothing but only what's the best for you!
    Integration of the implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes like dentures. Candidates for dental implants must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant.

  • Tooth Extractions

    A tooth extraction is the procedure done to remove a tooth from its socket in the jawbone which is damaged beyond repair.

    Which teeth are extracted?
    - Severely decayed
    - Periodontally diseased ("gum and bone disease")
    - Fractured in such a way that it is impossible or impractical to repair
    - Badly positioned (impacted wisdom teeth)
    - Non-functional or poorly functional teeth

    Extractions are generally classified as either non-surgical (also known as "simple") or surgical. A simple procedure may also become a surgical procedure if the tooth fractures or refuses to loosen under pressure. We perform these procedures only after making the extraction site(s) profoundly numb.

    Wisdom Teeth Extraction:
    If we determine that you need your wisdom teeth removed, our dental team will work with you to make your visit as comfortable as possible.

    Tooth Extraction Post-Operative Instructions:
    Following tooth extraction you may experience bleeding, oozing, soreness, or moderate to severe pain.

    Bleeding should stop by 8-12 hours following the extraction. If you experience significant bleeding past this time, please call our office immediately. Oozing of pink fluid for 1-2 days is normal.

    Discomfort following the tooth extraction is best managed with a mild painkiller. If you experience severe pain that lasts more than 2-3 days after your extraction, please call our office.

    Healing should be as smooth as possible following tooth extraction. It is important not to disturb the extraction site as possible. Remember to eat a soft diet for 24 hours following the extraction. Avoid vigorously rinsing with any type of liquid for the first 24 hours. After 24 hours rinse with warm salt water for 1 minute a couple of times daily for 7 days. This will reduce the number of bacteria in your mouth and will promote better healing.
    If you have any further questions, please call the office.
